The Surface Pen takes much longer to figure out than the Apple Pencil. When I first started using the Surface Pro 4 I found it as frustrating as I'd found its predecessor.
The Surface Pro 4 (and I'm talking about the i7 models here, which start at $1,500) is the only computer powerful enough to handle bulk photo editing, graphic design, and 3D modeling without any hiccups, versatile enough to offer precision editing with a stylus right on the screen, and light enough to carry around all day in a backpack. It brings together everything artists, graphic designers, and photographers need from a computer in one device. It may be powerful and attractive, but it's hard to recommend for most casual users. We ranked it behind Samsung's more stripped-down Galaxy TabPro S (though well ahead of Apple's two iPad Pros) because of design issues and its inflated cost.īut after spending more time with it, I have to admit something: This is the best computer I've ever used for creative work. The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is an unwieldy, problematic computer. But, like the Grateful Dead, Cleveland, or kimchi, the more time you spend with this device the more it grows on you.
